Thank you for purchasing tickets to attend our inaugural Rutherford Races to Read, Boro derby event. We are excited to put the FUN in fundraising for our local libraries. Oaklands Mansion, 900 N Maney Ave, will be a beautiful backdrop for our event. We wanted to provide you with some important information regarding the event and hopefully answer any questions you may have.
PARKING
Parking for ALL guests is at Oaklands Park. Please park and follow the sidewalk through the yard at Oaklands to join us. If you require handicap parking, please follow the drive into the mansion grounds. We will direct you to accessible parking. See the image below.
ARRIVAL
We will have a welcome table to greet you all as you arrive at the “track.” You can show us the QR code from the ticket purchase confirmation email, or just tell us your name. Also, there will be a bar for adult bevarages, if you choose to partake. BE PREPARED TO SHOW YOUR PHOTO ID for a wristband for the bar.
TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE EVENT, so tell your friends, it’s not too late!
ATTIRE
There is no dress code for our event, but it IS derby themed, so a great opportunity to show off your best look. We will be giving away two awards, BEST DRESSED and BEST HAT. Two lucky guests will win. We cannot wait to see you all!
YOUR TICKET
Adults will receive 2 drink tickets for the bar and 2 tickets to “pick your pony.” If you do not want tickets for the bar, we will give you 2 additional “pick your pony” tickets. Guests can place the “pick your pony” tickets in the jar/bucket for the horse they think will win. After each race, the top two horses will draw a ticket from their jar to present a door prize for a lucky winner. For additional donations, guests can purchase more tickets to “pick your pony” throughout the day, either at the bar or the welcome table. Either drink tickets for the bar, or “pick your pony” tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 (cash or venmo). Our bartender is donating their time for the fundraiser, so be sure to bring some cash to tip them well! They will also have a Venmo code to scan.
KIDS AREA
We will have facepainting and cornhole for the kids at no additional charge. We will also have a special guest, Bonnie, a miniature horse for the kids to pet and take photos with.
TIMELINE for the day
2 pm – 3 pm: Guests arrive, mingle, visit paddocks and enjoy the live band
3 pm: Welcome, recognition of sponsors and instructions
3:15 pm: First qualifying race
3:45 pm: Second qualifying race
4:15 pm: FINAL RACE for ALL THE MARBLES!
4:30 pm: Crowning of our winning horse and our Best Dressed and Best Hat contest winners.
5 pm: Event ends
