The Boro Clue season is upon us and we are looking for characters to play in our 8th annual Boro Clue Party!
What does that mean and who can play along?
** First and foremost, you MUST be available for ALL the dates in the image with an asterisk. This is NOT negotiable. If you cannot be at these FIVE dates, DO NOT APPLY. The other dates are optional, but the more you can attend, the more prepared you will be.
** SECOND, ALL Characters are REQUIRED to raise/donate a minimum of $1,000. Every effort will be given to assist you in making this goal including: marketing images and materials, events in the community, online payment options specifically for your character and loads of marketing from Wild Goose Chase and the Murfreesboro Kiwanis.
STILL INTERESTED?
You MUST complete an application and be chosen by our Clue Society, a group of past characters who know what it takes to play a role.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Do I have to be able to act?
Not at all, but we are looking for people with personality who don’t mind being a little silly and playing along as a character. You will be given information about your character, i.e. your story line, who your friends and enemies are, and your relationship to the deceased. This will help you create your own character that you are comfortable with.
2. Do I have to memorize lines?
NOPE! In fact, we give you a good basis for your character and let you loose to play the character however you see fit. In fact, you are welcome to have your character bio and info IN YOUR HANDS at the event. As long as you aren’t reading from it all night, you will be fine.
3. What if I haven’t seen the movie? or played the game?
GASP! WHAT?!?! Just kidding. This is NOT required, but really, what are you doing with your life? The movie was made in the 80’s and is super cheesy and hilarious. The game is loads of fun and really a process of elimination. If you haven’t played it, you should and maybe we will as a cast. Missy, our fearless leader, has about 10 versions, including orignal Clue, Clue Snoopy, Star Wars Clue and Harry Potter Clue to name a few. But our event is not centered around the game or movie. You do not have to dress or act like any characters from the movie or game.
4. If I am chosen, what do I wear?
Great question. We set the scene for you, give you information about your character and the rest is up to you. We want you to make the character your own, so we let you find your costume. Maybe you are Wadsworth and you buttle with a suit on, or maybe you are a caretaker of the grounds and you wear overalls. Maybe you are Miss Scarlet, but do NOT want to wear red OR a dress. Awesome, you do you! Make this character your own! We want you to be comfortable in your own skin so you can have the most fun!
5. $1,000 is a lot. What if I can’t do it?
Yes, it is a lot, but we do everything we can to help you meet your goal. Past characters come along side you and help advertise; the Kiwanis group advertises for you, so you just need to be able to ask your circle for help. That’s 10 people to donate $100, or 100 people to donate $10! You have to be willing to ask for donations from you network of friends, family and coworkers. In the end, it is up to you, and if you do not reach your goal by donations from others, you need to be willing to write a check for the rest of your goal.
6. What is Kiwanis and why are they the recipient?
Kiwanis is a global organizatin of volunteers, dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis is every state in the US and has more than 537,000 adult and youth members in 85 nations and geographic areas. Our local club, the Murfreesboro Kiwanis, has been serving the children of Murfreesboro for over 125 years. They meet weekly, planning and learning about our community, and then at least once a month are out in the community doing service projects, raising funds for local children’s nonprofits or volunteering their time to help out where needed. Their members are dedicated to being a productive part of Rutherford County by helping lots of children’s charities all over Rutherford County. Find out more HERE.
7. How many people apply and what are you looking for?
We have had anywhere from 8 to 25 people apply to be our characters. We DO require you to live in Rutherford County. The application is a simple one where you tell us about who you are and why you think you would make a great addition to the cast. Use this oportunity to show your personality and how you would make the character your own. You can apply to play ANY character or ALL characters. If you have your heart set on one, then say so, but please be willing to play another in case we have to play a game of tetris in our game of clue. We take into account your involvement in the community, the circles you are involved in, the area you work/live in. Example, we would not take 3 people who are all bankers. Even at different banks, we know you all run in the same circles. OUR GOAL is to create a well rounded cast that will have fun together, work together and increase the reach of WHO and WHAT the Kiwanis Club does.
8. When will we find out if we are selected.
Our Clue Society will meet the week applications close and we will let you know by May 26th. This gives us time to confirm everyone selected is 100% in and committed before we tell those who haven’t made it. AGAIN, YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE ALL OF THE REQUIRED DATES, without exception!
